A lot of people would think that if you have a regret from missing a team sale, its because you missed out on something you wanted to purchase. Thats not always the case. As many collectors enjoy attending expos and conventions because you get to see other collectors, the same can be held true for team sales.
The higher prices and less desire this year at the Detroit Red Wings sale was one of my deciding factors from not attending. While there may have been an item or two that I would have liked to get, factoring the time commitment, travel, and cost of the items of interest weighed heavily against going. Combined with other obligations in life, it became a clear answer. This year, I would roll the dice and see what friends may be able to help with.
While friendly collectors helped get some things I would like (I dont think many people had an issue with acquiring their wants) there was one regret from not attending. Seeing a number of collectors you only get to see a couple times a year. Hearing some of the stories from the guys after the sale, it reminded me why going to the sale is more about the stuff.
Sometimes the stuff sucks. If its expensive or a bug in you tells you that you need it when your brain is telling you that you don’t, it can definitely create conflict. Missing out on drinks with the guys, catching up from the year before, hearing about one getting so drunk he peed himself, those are the things you miss.
